Extreme Home Repair 2010

We are pleased to announce a family has been selected for the 2010 AOK Extreme Home Repair (EHR) project. Karen Weeks of Aldergrove, and her four children (Paige, Josh, Alexandria & Jesse) will have their home transformed beginning May 14 through May 24, 2010.

Karen, a single mom who works as a teacher’s assistant makes her four children her first priority. While we met with this genuine and sincere mother, she listed numerous problems that made their home difficult to live in such as: electrical, a 1960 circa furnace, lack of insulation in the back bedroom, poor attic ventilation coupled with old windows causing mold to grow in most of the rooms. When asked about the family’s health we learned that both Alexandria and Jesse suffer with asthma that is progressively getting worse.

The decision, although hard to make from all the deserving nominees, became clear after much deliberation and earnest prayer.

On Feb. 19 at about 4:30 pm approximately 30 previous EHR volunteers and supporters made a point of surprising the Weeks family at their home to inform them of the news. Karen was expecting to meet with the AOK team to answer more questions over a cup of tea. Her first response was shock and then jokingly apologized that she didn’t have enough tea for us all.

We are excited and look forward to improving the Weeks’ home, not only in comfort, but in safety for the health of the family. Many of our suppliers and volunteers are already on board after our last EHR Project in 2009 when in excess of 200 volunteers took the time to make a difference for the Myckatyn family.

This will be the seventh Extreme Home Reair. Each year we continue to receive more support and encouragement from our suppliers and volunteers. We invite you to come be a part of something that not only improves a home and a family, but transforms a community and makes a positive impact on our neighbors. You won’t believe it till you live it.
